What leadership skills (that you learned at KHK) helped you navigate college?
While volunteering with KHK, I have learned many leadership skills. The two most important ones are communication and confidence. Kids Helping Kids has taught me how to communicate. When I went through the recruitment process to find the best sorority for me, the main aspect of it is communication. You need to be able to communicate well with the girls in the sorority in order to find your perfect fit. Communication has also helped me live with a roommate for the first time. In order to live well with someone else, you need to be able to share how you are feeling. Being able to talk to each other honestly and without fear helped ensure a comfortable living environment. Kids Helping Kids has also taught me how to be confident. When you enter your freshman year of college, the “new” can be scary. Because of my time volunteering at KHK, I was able to branch out and make new friends, join clubs, and navigate my difficult major with confidence.
Can you share your favorite KHK project or memory?
My favorite project at KHK is the Gift of Giving. Every year I have volunteered at this project, I have been at the gift wrapping station. It is so special being able to see children pick out gifts for their loved ones and see the smile on their face once it is wrapped and ready to put under the tree.
