The annual “Gift of Giving” project started in 2013 when a team of 5th grade kids, led by Ethan Lange, talked about their love of getting and giving gifts around the holidays. So the seed of this idea grew into the Annual Gift of Giving and we now collect thousands of gently used and new gift for underserved kids to go shopping for their loved ones. We ask all shoppers to make Caring Cards for kids that will spend the holidays in the hospital. KHK partners with many schools and businesses to collect these gifts. In the beginning of December, we start to sort and organize the gifts at our collection site, The Salvation Army, and then will set up the pop up store on Friday, Dec. 8th and it is open to the public on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 2-5pm at The Boys and Girls Club. Last year, we had over 1,000 guests and placed over 6,400 gifts and we could not have done it without all of you.

Gift of Giving History
(2013 – Present)
Gift of Giving 2016: We had 1000 guests and placed over 6500 gifts into the hands of those that may not have been able to shop otherwise. We had shoppers make cards for kids in the hospital, shop for 2 toys, 2 clothing items, 2 household gift, 2 piece of jewelry, 2 new stuffed animals and as many books as they wanted. Two wrapping stations, Santa, cookie decorating, and reindeer food were some of the things that were provided by our 122 volunteers that day along with our youth DJ. We had over 100 volunteers sorting and organized the week prior to the event. It was a huge success and our debrief has already set the stage for changes to make it an even better event!
Gift of Giving 2015: Our 3rd Annual Gift of Giving event was a huge success. We collected over 4,000 gently used and new gifts and created a holiday shopping mall – providing items for kids in need to give to their loved ones. We served over 800 kids who went home with beautifully wrapped gifts, ready for the holidays. We even had Santa Clause, gift wrapping stations and holiday cookie decorating station. All shopping was free of charge, we only asked all shoppers to make “Get Well” cards for children in local hospitals.
Gift of Giving 2014: KHK partnered with the Boys and Girls Club to provide us the space to have our Gift of Giving event and the Salvation Army to act as our collection drop off point! Our generous KHK community donated thousands of gently used and new items to make this project a success. T Over 600 underserved children came to shop for people in their family. We greeted them and asked all children to make a thoughtful card for a child in the local hospital and then were given 3 tickets to get gifts for their loved ones! They were able to choose between thousands of items and then bring them to the wrapping department. While they were waiting, they could dance to the music provided by our DJ, take pictures with Santa, decorate cookies and more. It was a wonderful day that allowed those in need to experience the Gift of Giving.
Gift of Giving 2013: The idea behind this event was to give under-served children the ability to choose a gift for their family members for the holiday. We collected hundreds of gently used gifts for kids and adults and invited children at the Yerwood Center to come shopping! Over 20 KHK volunteers helped them with their selection and then wrapped the gifts for them.
