Grace found KHK through her Girl Scout Troop. She heard others talking about what KHK was all about and decided to attend an orientation to learn more about what she could do! Her favorite project was Tag Sale with Grace, where she served as lead ambassador. Grace loved seeing how months of hard work and dedication paid off in a successful event for the Stamford community. Grace really enjoyed seeing the community come together to shop thousands of discounted items for a great cause!
Grace feels that being involved with KHK has helped her tremendously with her leadership skills. Before joining, she says she didn’t talk much, but from leading and volunteering on projects, she has learned to speak up and to be unafraid to express her thoughts freely. She also credits KHK with helping her realize her potential as not only a role model for younger children, but as an advocate for underserved people in her community. Grace sums up what she’s learned best in her own words, “Just because I’m a kid, doesn’t mean I’m not powerful.”
When asked why kids should participate in volunteering, Grace stressed the importance of helping out in your community and giving support to those who may need it, but also that being a part of KHK makes “community service” fun! Part of the reason that Grace loves KHK is because not only are the projects themselves fun, but hanging out and playing with the kids KHK serves are the most memorable and enjoyable part of each project. She loves working with the children because from the smiles on their faces she is able to tell how happy and excited they are to be attending a KHK project that she helped organize and plan.
