Amelia’s favorite project is Theatre Treat because she loves the idea about sharing her passion for theatre with those who may not get to experience it otherwise. Theatre Treat was Amelia’s first project as a lead ambassador, and refers to it as her “baby”. Amelia says that her first Theatre Treat event made her feel really good that she pulled it off, but that it also was a bit of a challenge for her. This would be the first time Amelia spoke in front of a large crowd! She also found it challenging explaining theatre etiquette to children who knew nothing about theatre, but her guests were fast learners and had a wonderful time.
Amelia feels that through joining KHK, her leadership skills such as the ability to communicate effectively and speak up for her interests has improved greatly. “I’ve learned how to ask for what I want instead of sitting quietly and saying, “Do you think I can possibly do this?” Her improved confidence and assertiveness in public speaking definitely shows in the continued growing and success of Theatre Treat as a recurring project.
Amelia would encourage other children to volunteer in their communities because she believes it ends up paying off. She recommends finding a service opportunity that fits closely with your own interests, so that not only are you doing a good thing for others, but that you are also having fun in the process, concluding, “It doesn’t really feel like work when you’re doing something that you love.”
