Julia heard about KHK and thought it was cool to get service hours doing something she loves, helping kids of all ages. Julia originally joined to get community service hours, but has grown to love the organization so much that she volunteers any time she can. Julia’s favorite project is the Birthday Bash because it is a lot of fun giving a birthday party to kids at Inspirica who might not otherwise get to celebrate their birthdays. It’s so rewarding to her to see the smiles on the kids’ faces and to watch them having fun with their peers.
Kids Helping Kids has helped Julia gain important leadership skills such as the ability to stand up in front of a group and express her opinions. She feels that it is very important to know how to take a stand, for example, at a youth-led project one needs to be able to lead others and get the job done without necessarily being told what to do by an adult. She also has learned a lot from helping out at Orientation Meetings.
Julia thinks it’s important for kids to be involved in community service because she feels that everyone should give back. She says, “Those who are fortunate to get so much should really should give back to the community. Everything we do in KHK is local which means we really make an impact on people around us.”
