KHK Kindness Corner

Can you try to do one kind thing each day?  It’s fun, and it catches on!  Being kind doesn’t need to take much time, money or planning; it can be as simple as smiling at someone!

Only have a few minutes, try:

  • Smile at someone
  • Give someone a compliment
  • Hold the door open for someone
  • Return someone’s cart at the grocery store
  • Bring someone’s newspaper to the door
  • Offer to help carry something for someone
  • Say “hello” or “good morning”
  • Let someone go ahead of you in line
  • Say thank you to your teacher/bus driver/crossing guard
  • Invite someone to play/sit with you who seems shy or looks lonely
  • Speak up when you see someone being unkind to another


  • Send a card to someone in the military
  • Send a card to a children’s hospital
  • Make Valentines or holiday ornaments for a local nursing home
  • Draw a picture and mail it to a family member who lives far away


  • Bake something yummy for a new family in the neighborhood
  • Offer to help prepare a meal (or take one on all by yourself!)
  • Surprise a friend with birthday cupcakes
  • Plant and grow your own vegetables


  • Donate old sports equipment
  • Offer to teach a sibling or young friend your favorite sport
  • Be a good sport – say “good game” to opponents
  • Cheer on your teammates
  • Let someone else go first


  • Offer to walk a neighbor’s dog
  • Collect items for a local animal shelter
  • Build a natural birdfeeder or add a water source to your yard
  • Play with/exercise your pet

Family/At Home:

  • Do a household chore without being asked
  • Say thank you
  • Offer to play something that is someone else’s favorite thing to do
  • Teach a sibling something new
  • Tell a family member what you admire about him/her

Outdoors/The Environment:

  • Plant something
  • Pick up litter/collect recycling
  • Recycle
  • Use less water
  • Bring your lunch to school in reusable containers


  • Donate gently used clothes and shoes
  • Donate gently used toys
  • Choose a toy you receive on your birthday/holidays to give to Toys for Tots
  • Offer a bottle of water to your postal worker or UPS driver on a hot day
  • Donate Halloween candy to Operation Gratitude
  • Read stories to a younger sibling or friend
