PROJECT INFORMATION
Date: Thursday, August 5th
Time: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Location: Boys and Girls Club Yerwood Unit
VOLUNTEER SHIFTS:
Volunteers for this project will collect recyclables for 2-3 weeks at their house/in the neighborhood and will then join us for a giant sorting session. All of the sorted items will then be recycled for cash and donated to another local organization.
ABOUT THIS PROJECT:
Lesley, a resident of Stamford, CT, started collecting recyclables for those in need 4 years ago. For many years Lesley would drop off recyclables to those she saw collecting them in nearby parks and downtown locations for them to be able to turn them into cash. After seeing many people struggle with basic needs during the winter and more specifically those still collecting items in the cold temperatures and snowy conditions Lesley decided she needed to do more. Starting this past year Lesley has organized larger scale collections where hundreds if not thousands of recyclables are sorted by type and then turned into cash at the local transfer station. These larger sorting events have enabled Lesley to obtain raise hundreds of dollars for cash donations for local organizations. Her idea that once served one person at a time has now grown into a community effort to help local organizations that support in-need populations. Lesley's mission is to bring the community together and bring awareness of how recycling is not only good for the environment but can change someones' life!
